Abstract:

Falls are the second biggest cause of accidental injury fatality globally, behind only motor vehicle collisions. Globally, an estimated 684,000 falls occur annually. Nurses are the closest to patients, and they contribute significantly to the prevention of patient falls. Healthcare workers' altered behavior and attitude due to increased workload and new standard operating procedures harm the work process, particularly nursing care. This study aims to evaluate how the knowledge and attitude of hospital-based nurses influence their participation in fall-prevention initiatives. For data collection, a descriptive cross-sectional survey containing questions regarding knowledge and attitudes towards falls and analyzing how these aspects relate to falling prevention techniques is utilized. Nurses in a Malaysian tertiary hospital are surveyed regarding their fall prevention knowledge, attitudes, and involvement. This study provides recommendations for improvements that should be made to ensure that hospitals employ the appropriate fall prevention measures to prevent patient falls. To provide a more precise evaluation, it is necessary to analyze the current situation of these components within the institution. The research has both theoretical and practical fall prevention implications.
