Abstract:

Continuous improvement in the quality of healthcare services is an essential priority for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and one of the key instruments for achieving the goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. Credible hospital accreditation standards are often discussed in the literature as a promising mechanism for ensuring high hospital performance. The current study is dedicated to critically investigating the relationship between CBAHI FMS standards and the quality of healthcare services. The research was conducted in the healthcare sector of Saudi Arabia. An online survey (n=102) with employees of this organization was completed. This study sought to determine whether the hospital's reported compliance with standards related to facility safety, security, fire safety, emergency preparation, hazardous materials, medical equipment, and utility programs could predict the quality of healthcare services provided by the organization. It was found that compliance with CBAHI FMS standards affects the quality of healthcare services (R2 = 0.79, p-value = 6.51E-29). At the same time, only hazardous materials, medical equipment, fire safety, and security standards influenced the hospital's performance. Furthermore, excluding external disaster drills from the emergency preparation program could influence the reported quality of healthcare services. Other programs turned out to be irrelevant from this perspective. The study offers a detailed discussion of these findings. It illustrates the need to ensure compliance with CBAHI FMS standards as a critical instrument for improving the quality of healthcare services in Saudi Arabia.
